tried to get up and out before 6, but didn't make it till about 20 after.  79o and 85% humidity at 6:20.  didn't change much during my run.  luckily, there was still a lot of shade in the road from the trees, and heading south there was an occasional breeze that helped.

I did 2 out & backs.  one down the street, and the other one up the street.  the first leg was 6.2 miles.  I ran a tad further to make it 6.25 so I could have my own mini D-news 10K.  (I just missed the crowds, the downhills, and the smell of bacon cooking as I ran by).  My time was rotten, but I didn't care.  I just wanted to get miles in today.

My end time for the 10k was 59:40.  I then stopped at the house to refill my water bottle and drop offf my headlamp.  I went the other direction up the road until it ended & came back.  when I got home, I was at 9.85 miles, so I just kept running to make it 10.

overall avg pace was 9:31. splits: 10:18, 9:37, 9:45, 9:30, 9:21, 9:01, 9:36, 9:14, 9:41, 9:04.

The 9:14 and 9:41 are really the same stretch of road- guess which one was the downhill sloped time and which one was the uphill time :-)

Then I came home and had this little tasty treat.

Happy 24th of July y'all.  (It's Pioneer Day in Utah for those of you who aren't up to speed on your Utah holidays).

Your smoothie looks delicious. I had one today too! Do you add protein to yours?

Great DN10K memorial run :) With a little downhill you could've paced little D into his finish. Plus, I think it was a lot cooler for us here as well; however, the jamba juice was gone when I finished so I didn't get a nice fruit smoothie afterward! The medals were all gone too :(

Don't you have some sort of founder's day during the summer too? :)

Terri- yes, but only on long runs like today. usually it's just whatever fresh & frozen fruit I've got laying around with some yogurt and ice.

I was celebrating today and added some pina colada mixer too. sweet!

RAD- If I were more thoughtful, considerate, and caring, I'd answer you. sorry you didn't get any juice though...I know you deserved it.

nice job on your run BTW. Little D was the fastest under age 5 participant out there. probably due to his good "form."

What a lovely treat.

How nice that you ran a mini D-news 10K.

You used your headlamp? It's dark there at 6:20 in the morning? We've got sunlight by about 5:30 am these days.

From The Quiet Pirate on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 09:44:47 from 65.191.108.72

Carolyn,

it's light outside at 6:20, but not full throttle sun. The road I was running has no shoulder, is 55, and still really shady in the morning. I wore it for the cars to see me.

not sure if it makes any difference, but I figured why not?
