Legs were sleepy, but I was happy to be out running in the rain again.  Except for the mist on my glasses, I love the early morning light rain runs.

My goal this morning was to try and run slow and easy.  Trying to get used to the pace I'll need to keep for the marathon.  I over did it on the first mile and got in at a 10:40.  So I tried speeding up a little...that's easier said than done.  I'll just say the 10:40 was my warm up.

I managed to keep around a 9:40 for the next 5 miles.  I guess that's better than a 10:40.  My legs were still a little sore from Friday, but I can feel the pain is going away. Tomorrow is my tempo...I think it's a 7 miler.  I just want to make sure I'm not pushing too much and push into an injury.

And how exciting...I forgot to say that I was happy on Saturday when I put my 100th mile on my new shoes.  I love them & can't believe how the miles add up.

No pace is too slow on an easy run, particularly for the first mile. I frequently have my first mile slower than 10:00, especially when it's cold outside.

So is it the Mizuno's that you're loving? Can you give more detail on what shoes they are, beyond just the brand? I'm getting ready to buy new shoes and I'm interested in what other people are wearing. Also, I notice that you have some trail shoes. How do you like them? How different do they feel than regular shoes? I'm wondering if I should get trail shoes since my next two races are trail races.

Carolyn,

Yes, I love the Mizuno's. I finally went to the Fleet Feet store in Raleigh and they helped me pick out the right type of shoe, as well as getting me a good supportive sole. It's money well spent. The liner is super comfy and the toe box is a better fit than the New Balance and Saucony I've been using.

I never knew I needed a stability shoe, but I did. Once I started running in the right shoes, a lot of my aches & pains diminished. Especially my plantar faciatis.

Since I don't have my shoes with me, the most I can tell you is that they're a super stability Mizuno.

My trail shoes are just New Balance shoes. They have a harder sole. Better traction and the rocks don't get stuck in the bottoms like they do in the Mizunos. I put my arch inserts into the trail shoes to give me the extra stability I need.

Hope that helps. I'll post the specific shoe info when I've got them handy.

Carolyn,

My Mizuno's are the Wave Alchemy 9.
