got out early(4:10) for some speedwork. Warm up mile 10:06, then fast mile at 7:43, recovery 1/2 mile jog, fast mile 7:48. Speed was good, knee was good. I was supposed to run 11 total with 4 speed mile sessions.

Just after the second fast mile, I was just starting the slow down jog, and shazam! mis-stepped and my knee went ouch! That was the beginning of the end. I did all the stretches/walking/re-adjusting I could, but wasn't able to run without pain. I headed home to pull out the big guns- the super sized knee brace- and put it on. It offered a lot of relief, and as long as I didn't run too fast, all was good. I could feel the knee occasionally, but I could still run.

The walk home & stretching sucked up my time, so I only got to finish 9 miles. Knee felt pretty good at home. I'd taken a naprosyn before heading out. Iced the knee a little, and went to work. All was great until I tried the stairs. I guess all isn't good.

Gotta figure out what the crap I need to do to get the knee straight asap. Supposed to run 11 tomorrow and 20 Saturday. Considering resting for a few days and moving the 20 back another week.

Any suggestions?

I agree. You've got the miles/endurance part covered for the marathon. Your body will take you through the miles IF it's healthy. x-train until you have no pain, then start again...maybe with the big guns knee brace until you're confident that you won't have any problems.

That's my 2 cents, but I'm a little crazy too :)

QP, what exactly is wrong with your knee? Many things can cause knee problems, running on slanted roads, ITB. Sometimes we need to modify our goals, I would agree with you sis, take a few days off and cross train if it does not bother the knee. The brace, it is hard to run fast with a brace, my brace slows me down at least a minute per mile.

Hope things go well for my favorite pirate. What date is the marathon?

No blog entries lately. Uh oh. How's the knee?

You are doing the right thing by letting your knee rest and recover. Hang in there!

Thanks for the words of encouragement..."patience" is not the name of my ship, or my first mate. In fact, patience has never set foot on deck. I'm not sure where to find her either.

Anyone have some suggestions or thoughts on taking glucosamine/condroiton (sp?) ?

Hang in there. I've heard those supplements are good, but no personal experience. I've also read and heard lately the amazing effects of fish oil. Only the 'after taste' deters me from trying it. I've heard that's the worst part!

I like the aftertaste of fish oil. For hours afterwards when you burp, you can taste fish. Yummy.

You did? How did it taste? Like fish?

RAD- I'm not sure if they've made improvements in the Oil departments, but Dad used to take that Cod Liver Oil, and it made him reek...his whole personage.. it wasn't good.
